Public Transportation And The Finer Art Of Social Skills

Periodically my local newspaper the Seattle Times has an article that includes me; such is the case with a recent article on social etiquette when riding the light rail in the greater metropolitan Seattle region. In the absence of effective security measures, one must do what is necessary to protect themselves while riding public transportation.

This is such a contrast to other public transportation systems in many places around the world. I’ve rode busses in Guatemala City (Transmetro) as well as those in Cartagena, Colombia (TransCaribe) and both times I felt safer at both the platform stops and on board than in most American cities.
